Petrov Frame Atelier is proud to offer a large selection of custom frame moulding samples. We are also able to create or recreate a desired moulding from scratch.

Customers can choose from a large selection of archival, acid-free matboard options in paper, linen, suede and silk, and select from a range of glass options.

We create beautiful custom framing packages around your art.

Hand-carved and gilded frames start as lumber in our workshop.

After creating a custom moulding, details can be carved into the frame, either following a new pattern, or re-creating an existing one. Next, layers of gesso and clay are applied and sanded smooth to prepare for 24k gold leaf to be carefully applied to the surface. These frames are museum-quality.

Featured Frame: "Tana Bana"

We built this frame for a woven paper carpet by artist Ghulam Mohammad entitled "Tana Bana" (Fidget), 2019.  The 14' long, extremely delicate artwork required a frame that was sleek and simple, sufficiently deep, strong enough to hold its own weight, and sturdy enough to hold itself square.

We designed, built, and painted a custom frame, including supports on the back of the frame to keep it square and sturdy, and thin supports on the front to add architectural details and prevent warping. Fully-reversible, conservation-grade hinging techniques were used to affix the carpet to the acid-free backing board, which prevents the carpet from sagging, tearing, or becoming unwoven as it hangs in an upright orientation. After consultation with our client and the artist, we decided to fit the art slightly away from the UV-protective acrylic in order to highlight the delicate texture of the woven paper carpet, particularly the curled fringes.
