Ebony (Diospyros spp.) is among the most expensive of all available hardwoods, and has a long history of ornamental use. Deep jet-black, Gabon Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) is found in equatorial West Africa and is extremely durable. Because of the small size of the tree, and a high demand for fine work, Ebony has seen a decline in recent years- which is reflected in pricing.
